Official Collage Title: "God Told Me to Skin You Alive"
Printed on Matte Stock
Hand Signed & Titled

Created as the album cover for Green Day’s Insomniac, "God Told Me to Skin You Alive" is a reference to the Dead Kennedys first album, “Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables”. The cover art contains an image (the dentist) that was originally used in a collage featured in the insert booklet art of Dead Kennedys’ album Plastic Surgery Disasters. There are also three skulls on the entire album cover– one for each member of Green Day. One of the skulls requires you to view the piece at an angle. The hidden skull is taken from Hans Holbein’s 1533 painting The Ambassadors.

Winston Smith is the quintessential Punk Surrealist, montage artist and designer most known for creating the Dead Kennedys iconic logo and artwork. He has produced over 50 record covers and is known for his work with Green Day and publications such as The New Yorker, Playboy, Spin Magazine and many more. His intricate collage work imbued with thought-provoking, tongue-in-cheek themes is often made using vintage magazines and photographs. Winston has published multiple books of his collage collections and consistently creates new, powerful, contemporary original compositions.
